Admissions & Nursery Information

The children, staff and governors of Mount Pleasant Lane JMI & Nursery School extend a very warm welcome to you and your child. If you haven’t visited our school yet, we would very much like to meet you and show you all the wonderful things that the children are learning about, so please make an appointment.

Mount Pleasant Lane JMI & Nursery School is a Hertfordshire County Primary School which offers a broad education to children of mixed abilities aged three to eleven years. Admissions to the school are governed by the admissions policy of Hertfordshire Education Authority – the Nursery admissions process now operates online.

Our aim is to provide all children with high quality Early Years education, which builds on the foundations that you have already laid and can be developed further through the school.

We offer you a school that is a happy, safe and stimulating place for your child. We work in partnership with you as parents to ensure that your child enjoys their time at Mount Pleasant Lane School and achieves all the success of which he/she is capable. We are sure that your time with us will be enjoyable and worthwhile. We look forward to working with you over the next few years.

Details on how to apply for a nursery place will be sent to parents by Hertfordshire County Council in the spring term of the year in which their child is due to start nursery.

Following the offer and acceptance of a child’s place in nursery, parents/guardians will still need to apply for a mainstream place to join Reception the following year. This is a separate process and details of how to apply will be sent to parents/guardians by Hertfordshire County Council.

If you would like your child to attend our school, please see full details of our admission arrangements below:

The following represent the standard Hertfordshire rules by which admissions are decided.  These follow in a priority order as listed below:

Children with a Statement of SN naming the school (all schools must take these children before allocating any places)

  1. Children in public care (children looked after)
  2. Children ‘at risk’ – child protection plan or on the Child Protection Register;
  3. Other applicants:
    1. Children who have a particular medical or social need to go to the school.
    2. Siblings (children who have a sibling at the school at the time of application, unless in the last year of the normal age-range of the school)
    3. Any other children.

Tiebreak – Distances

Additional statement from the school:

Part time places are not offered at Mount Pleasant Lane JMI as standard.

However, at the discretion of the Headteacher, part-time applicants may be considered for additional placements if spaces remain following the completion of the formal admissions process. This will be reviewed on an annual basis.

Historically, we have been over-subscribed in Reception and beyond. Please see the document below which explains the oversubscription criteria.

It will not be possible to change a full-time offer to part-time placement once the offer is accepted.

NB.  It is important to note that the above will not affect the application of the published rules for admissions and does not represent an admissions criterion in itself.
